The Outback is the name given to middle of Australia. Basically, all that country ‘out back’ of more closely settled areas. It’s generally dry country, and any rainfall results in a quick growth of grasses and jubilation on the faces of locals. If you fly over Australia in the daytime, look out the window and you’ll see that much of the soil is really as red as in these photographs. We visited an abandoned outback property and discovered, amongst the old buildings and scrub trees, evidence of those long gone.
